EVENTS

Arts in Bloom: A celebration of art and wine held in April, including Texas wine, craft beer, 150 local, regional and nationally recognized artists, live entertainment and children’s activities.

Bike the Bricks: Bring the whole family to enjoy food, spirits and festivities at this free cycling event in Historic Downtown McKinney in May. The event will include interval races, and cyclists from all over the nation will square off and chase a $25,000 purse.

Chestnut Square’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream Festival featuring the Killis Melton Ice Cream Crank-Off: This delightfully delicious event showcases talented and creative “crankers” who create memorable flavors for sampling. There’s also plenty of homemade ice cream for sale and fun events for the kids.

Classics on the Square: A group of classic car, truck and motorcycle enthusiasts getting together to eat breakfast, talk about vehicles and have a good time on the last Saturday of each month.

Home for the Holidays…A McKinney Christmas: Starting the weekend after Thanksgiving in Historic Downtown McKinney and featuring non-stop family activities, entertainment, food galore, a chance to finish your Christmas shopping and more.

Krewe of Barkus: Patterned after the Mystic Krewe of Barkus in New Orleans, established to help abused and abandoned canines, Krewe of Barkus held in February features a parade, vendor booths, interactive activities and plenty of pups in costumes.

McKinney Oktoberfest: McKinney Oktoberfest in September is a family favorite, offering authentic German music, food and drink (a “bier garden” stretching 14 blocks), traditional costumes, dancing, children’s activities and much more.

Red White and Boom Parade: Celebrate the Fourth of July at Red, White and BOOM! with plenty of food and drink, family activities, live entertainment and spectacular fireworks show. downtown events include a parade at 10 a.m., classic car, truck and cycle show and a block party right after the parade.

Scare on the Square: The shops in downtown McKinney and McKinney Main Street invite you to come out on Tuesday, October 31 from 4 – 7 p.m. and enjoy the sights of hundreds of ghosts and goblins young and old in Historic Downtown McKinney.

PROGRAMS

Art Club of McKinney: Meets the second Thursday of every month, and has art-related programs from 9:30 a.m. – noon.

Arts Commission: The City of McKinney allots funds each year to encourage a thriving cultural environment, and the Arts Commission advises City Council on how to distribute these funds.

Library programs: Offers reading programs for children, teens and adults, and computer and ESL classes.

McKinney Public Library Teen Advisory Board: The McKinney Public Library knows young adults (grades 7-12) are an integral part of the community. The Teen Advisory Board improves teen activities and young adult opportunities at the Library.

Young Actors Guild: McKinney Repertory Theatre’s Young Actors Guild shows children how important they are whether their endeavors are onstage, behind the curtain, or as supporters of the arts.

Chestnut Square Historic Village: Chestnut Square provides an opportunity to step back in time.
