North Texas Residents Embrace the Christmas Tree

For centuries, plants and trees that remain green year round have had a special meaning for people all around the world.  In many countries, it was believed that evergreens would keep away spirits and prevent illness.  From large impacts on ancient Egyptians, early Romans, Druids & Scandinavian Vikings, the Christmas tree tradition known today is credited to Germany beginning in the 16th century!  The installment of lights to the tree is believed to be first made by Martin Luther as a form of recreating a starry sky within his home.

In households all over the world today, putting up and decorating a Christmas tree is a revered and consistent tradition as a way of ringing in the holiday season.  In these current times, the question of whether or not you are putting up a tree is replaced with another…fake or real?

The introduction of artificial Christmas trees, also by the Germans, were originally comprised of wood, feathers and other found items.  The majority of modern day artificial trees are manufactured from PVC plastic, a fire-retardant (but not fire-resistant) material.  According to the National Christmas Tree Association, real Christmas trees are still preferred over the fake option with 26MM purchased last year over artificial numbers of 13MM.  These numbers however, cannot capture the re-use of artificial trees year-over-year.
